Whether you're furnishing a patio, designing a hospitality project, or planning a custom furniture collection, understanding standard furniture dimensions is essential. Proper sizing ensures comfortable seating, efficient layouts, and balanced proportions.
This guide covers common patio furniture dimensions, outdoor patio furniture dimensions, bench dimensions, coffee table dimensions, dining furniture sizes, bedroom furniture, storage pieces, and more to help homeowners, designers, architects, and furniture buyers make informed decisions.

At Bukit Interiors, we manufacture custom teak furniture for residential, hospitality, and wholesale projects. The dimensions below combine common planning standards with examples from our own teak furniture collections.
How to Read Furniture Dimensions
Before comparing furniture sizes, it helps to understand a few common measurement terms.
Term | Meaning |
Length | The longest horizontal measurement of the piece. For sofas, tables, beds, and benches, this is usually the side-to-side measurement. |
Width | The front-to-back measurement. In many furniture guides, this may also be called “depth.” |
Height | The measurement from the floor to the tallest point of the furniture. |
L × W × H | Length × Width × Height. This is the format used throughout this guide. |
Overall footprint | The total floor space needed for the furniture, including chairs, walkways, and clearance. |
Seat height | The distance from the floor to the top of the seat. |
Seat depth | The distance from the front of the seat to the back cushion or backrest. |
Arm height | The distance from the floor to the top of the armrest. |
Clearance | The open space needed around furniture so people can move comfortably. |
Diameter | The full width of a round table from one side to the other. |
CBM | Cubic meters. This is used in export and container planning to estimate shipping volume. |
Note: All dimensions below are listed as Length × Width × Height in both centimeters and inches. Inches are rounded to the nearest whole number.
Standard Patio Chair Dimensions
One of the most searched questions is patio chair dimensions. Outdoor chairs are often designed slightly larger than indoor dining chairs because they are made for a more relaxed seating position, thicker cushions, and open-air lounging.
Chair Type | Length | Width | Height | Notes |
Outdoor dining chair | 50–60 cm / 20–24 in | 50 cm / 20 in | 70–80 cm / 28–31 in | Best for dining tables and compact patio layouts. |
Patio armchair | 80–90 cm / 31–35 in | 80 cm / 31 in | 70–85 cm / 28–33 in | Similar to many Bukit teak armchair proportions. |
Outdoor lounge chair | 76–91 cm / 30–36 in | 81–97 cm / 32–38 in | 71–86 cm / 28–34 in | Deeper and more relaxed than a dining chair. |
Club chair | 76–91 cm / 30–36 in | 76–91 cm / 30–36 in | 76–86 cm / 30–34 in | Works well in lounge areas, villas, and hotel patios. |
For patio dining layouts, allow at least 61–76 cm / 24–30 in between chairs when possible. This gives guests enough space to sit, move, and pull chairs in and out comfortably.
Outdoor Chair Dimensions
Standard outdoor chair dimensions depend on the function of the chair. Dining chairs, lounge chairs, and patio armchairs all serve different purposes.
Outdoor Chair Style | Length | Width | Height | Best Use |
Dining chair | 50–60 cm / 20–24 in | 50–56 cm / 20–22 in | 70–80 cm / 28–31 in | Dining tables, restaurants, cafes, compact patios. |
Arm dining chair | 56–66 cm / 22–26 in | 56–66 cm / 22–26 in | 76–91 cm / 30–36 in | More comfortable dining, end chairs, hospitality spaces. |
Lounge armchair | 80–90 cm / 31–35 in | 80–90 cm / 31–35 in | 70–85 cm / 28–33 in | Poolside seating, outdoor lounges, villas. |
Low lounge chair | 76–91 cm / 30–36 in | 81–97 cm / 32–38 in | 66–81 cm / 26–32 in | Relaxed outdoor seating with a lower profile. |
A comfortable outdoor lounge chair usually has a lower seat, deeper cushion, and slightly reclined back angle compared to a dining chair.
Patio Set Dimensions
Typical patio set dimensions depend on how many people the set needs to seat. The table size is only part of the planning process. You also need space for chairs and circulation around the set.
Patio Set Size | Table Length | Table Width | Table Height | Recommended Overall Footprint |
4-person round set | 107–122 cm / 42–48 in | 107–122 cm / 42–48 in | 74–78 cm / 29–31 in | 244 × 244 cm / 8 × 8 ft minimum |
6-person rectangular set | 183–220 cm / 72–87 in | 90–100 cm / 35–39 in | 74–78 cm / 29–31 in | 305 × 305 cm / 10 × 10 ft minimum |
8-person rectangular set | 220–250 cm / 87–98 in | 100–110 cm / 39–43 in | 74–78 cm / 29–31 in | 366 × 366 cm / 12 × 12 ft recommended |
10-person rectangular set | 300 cm / 118 in | 110 cm / 43 in | 74–78 cm / 29–31 in | 427 × 366 cm / 14 × 12 ft recommended |
Bukit teak dining tables often fall in the 200–250 cm / 79–98 in length range, with widths around 90–110 cm / 35–43 in and a height of 78 cm / 31 in.
Outdoor Patio Furniture Dimensions
Standard outdoor patio furniture dimensions should balance comfort, proportion, and circulation space. Outdoor sofas and lounge chairs are usually deeper than indoor dining furniture.
Furniture Type | Length | Width | Height | Notes |
Outdoor sofa | 183–244 cm / 72–96 in | 80–97 cm / 31–38 in | 70–86 cm / 28–34 in | Bukit sofa examples are commonly 200 cm long. |
Loveseat | 122–168 cm / 48–66 in | 80–97 cm / 31–38 in | 70–86 cm / 28–34 in | Good for smaller patios or balcony lounges. |
Lounge armchair | 80–90 cm / 31–35 in | 80–90 cm / 31–35 in | 70–85 cm / 28–33 in | Matches many teak lounge collections. |
Ottoman | 61–91 cm / 24–36 in | 61–91 cm / 24–36 in | 40–46 cm / 16–18 in | Can double as a footrest or extra seat. |
For outdoor lounge areas, leave 41–46 cm / 16–18 in between the sofa and coffee table. This keeps the table close enough to use while leaving room for legs.
Patio Furniture Dimensions for Sectionals
Modular sectionals are common for villas, resorts, boutique hotels, and larger outdoor lounges. They allow the layout to be adjusted depending on the space.
Sectional Piece | Length | Width | Height | Notes |
Armless chair module | 71–91 cm / 28–36 in | 80–97 cm / 31–38 in | 70–86 cm / 28–34 in | Used to extend the sofa length. |
Corner unit | 86–102 cm / 34–40 in | 86–102 cm / 34–40 in | 70–86 cm / 28–34 in | Creates L-shaped or U-shaped layouts. |
Chaise section | 152–183 cm / 60–72 in | 76–91 cm / 30–36 in | 70–86 cm / 28–34 in | Designed for reclining. |
Ottoman module | 71–91 cm / 28–36 in | 71–91 cm / 28–36 in | 40–46 cm / 16–18 in | Can connect to sectionals or stand alone. |
For hospitality projects, sectional dimensions often need to be adjusted to the exact terrace, pool deck, or lounge layout. A few centimeters can make a major difference when aligning multiple modular pieces.
Coffee Table Dimensions
Choosing the correct coffee table dimensions improves both comfort and proportion. A coffee table should feel easy to reach without blocking movement through the seating area.
Coffee Table Type | Length | Width | Height | Notes |
Small square coffee table | 70–85 cm / 28–33 in | 70–85 cm / 28–33 in | 45 cm / 18 in | Good for lounge chairs or compact seating. |
Large square coffee table | 100 cm / 39 in | 100 cm / 39 in | 45 cm / 18 in | Works well with large outdoor sofas. |
Rectangular coffee table | 100–120 cm / 39–47 in | 60–80 cm / 24–31 in | 45 cm / 18 in | Common size for sofas and lounge sets. |
Low outdoor coffee table | 90–120 cm / 35–47 in | 60–80 cm / 24–31 in | 35–45 cm / 14–18 in | Creates a more relaxed resort-style look. |
A coffee table is usually best at around one-half to two-thirds the length of the sofa. For example, a 200 cm / 79 in sofa pairs well with a coffee table around 100–120 cm / 39–47 in long.
Bench Dimensions
Proper bench dimensions depend on the number of people the bench needs to seat and whether it has a backrest.
Bench Type | Length | Width | Height | Notes |
2-person bench | 107–122 cm / 42–48 in | 41–46 cm / 16–18 in | 43–46 cm / 17–18 in | Compact entryway or garden bench. |
3-person bench | 152–183 cm / 60–72 in | 41–46 cm / 16–18 in | 43–46 cm / 17–18 in | Common outdoor and dining bench size. |
4-person bench | 183–244 cm / 72–96 in | 41–46 cm / 16–18 in | 43–46 cm / 17–18 in | Best for long dining tables or commercial spaces. |
Bench with backrest | 122–244 cm / 48–96 in | 51–61 cm / 20–24 in | 76–91 cm / 30–36 in | More comfortable for longer seating periods. |
For dining benches, the seat height should usually be close to a dining chair seat height: 43–46 cm / 17–18 in.
Outdoor Dining Table Dimensions
Outdoor dining tables need enough surface area for place settings while still allowing chairs to move comfortably around the table.
Rectangular Dining Tables
Seating Capacity | Length | Width | Height | Notes |
4 people | 122–152 cm / 48–60 in | 90 cm / 35 in | 74–78 cm / 29–31 in | Compact patios and small dining areas. |
6 people | 183–220 cm / 72–87 in | 90–100 cm / 35–39 in | 74–78 cm / 29–31 in | Common residential and restaurant size. |
8 people | 220–250 cm / 87–98 in | 100–110 cm / 39–43 in | 74–78 cm / 29–31 in | Common for villas and hospitality projects. |
10 people | 300 cm / 118 in | 110 cm / 43 in | 74–78 cm / 29–31 in | Best for large terraces and family-style dining. |
Round Dining Tables
Seating Capacity | Length | Width | Height | Notes |
2 people | 76–91 cm / 30–36 in | 76–91 cm / 30–36 in | 74–78 cm / 29–31 in | Small balconies or cafe tables. |
4 people | 107–122 cm / 42–48 in | 107–122 cm / 42–48 in | 74–78 cm / 29–31 in | Common patio dining size. |
6 people | 137–152 cm / 54–60 in | 137–152 cm / 54–60 in | 74–78 cm / 29–31 in | Comfortable for larger patios. |
8 people | 183 cm / 72 in | 183 cm / 72 in | 74–78 cm / 29–31 in | Requires a large outdoor dining area. |
For round tables, length and width are the same because both measurements refer to the diameter.
Dining Chair Dimensions
Dining chairs should fit comfortably under the table while leaving enough room for guests to sit and move.
Chair Type | Length | Width | Height | Notes |
Standard dining chair | 50 cm / 20 in | 50 cm / 20 in | 80 cm / 31 in | Common teak dining chair proportion. |
Wider woven or rattan dining chair | 60 cm / 24 in | 50 cm / 20 in | 70 cm / 28 in | Works well for relaxed dining settings. |
Arm dining chair | 56–66 cm / 22–26 in | 56–66 cm / 22–26 in | 76–91 cm / 30–36 in | Often used at table ends. |
For comfortable dining, allow about 61 cm / 24 in of table length per person. For a more spacious hospitality layout, allow 66–76 cm / 26–30 in per person.
Side Table and Bedside Table Dimensions
Outdoor side tables and bedside tables are small, but their height matters. The tabletop should sit close to the height of the nearby sofa arm, lounge chair arm, or mattress top.
Table Type | Length | Width | Height | Notes |
Outdoor side table | 45–60 cm / 18–24 in | 45–60 cm / 18–24 in | 45–56 cm / 18–22 in | Best next to lounge chairs or sofas. |
Compact bedside table | 45–50 cm / 18–20 in | 45 cm / 18 in | 55–60 cm / 22–24 in | Good for smaller bedrooms. |
Standard bedside table | 55 cm / 22 in | 45 cm / 18 in | 50–55 cm / 20–22 in | Common Bukit bedside table range. |
For bedrooms, the bedside table height should usually be close to the top of the mattress.
Chaise Lounge Dimensions
Outdoor chaise lounges are usually longer and lower than chairs because they are designed for reclining.
Chaise Type | Length | Width | Height | Notes |
Standard outdoor chaise | 193–203 cm / 76–80 in | 61–76 cm / 24–30 in | 30–46 cm / 12–18 in | Common poolside lounger size. |
Bukit teak chaise reference | 202 cm / 80 in | 66 cm / 26 in | 26 cm / 10 in | Frame height before thicker cushions. |
Chaise with cushion | 193–203 cm / 76–80 in | 61–76 cm / 24–30 in | 40–46 cm / 16–18 in | Final seat height depends on cushion thickness. |
For hotels and pool decks, leave at least 61–76 cm / 24–30 in between chaise lounges when possible.
Bar Table and Stool Dimensions
Bar-height furniture is taller than standard dining furniture and is commonly used in outdoor bars, restaurant patios, and resort lounges.
Furniture Type | Length | Width | Height | Notes |
Round bar table | 76–91 cm / 30–36 in | 76–91 cm / 30–36 in | 102–107 cm / 40–42 in | Good for 2–4 people. |
Rectangular bar table | 120–180 cm / 47–71 in | 60–80 cm / 24–31 in | 102–107 cm / 40–42 in | Better for commercial seating. |
Bar stool | 40–50 cm / 16–20 in | 40–50 cm / 16–20 in | 71–76 cm / 28–30 in seat height | Designed for 40–42 in bar tables. |
Leave about 25–30 cm / 10–12 in between the stool seat and the underside of the tabletop.
Counter Table and Counter Stool Dimensions
Counter-height furniture is slightly lower than bar-height furniture and is often more comfortable for casual dining.
Furniture Type | Length | Width | Height | Notes |
Counter table | 120–180 cm / 47–71 in | 60–90 cm / 24–35 in | 86–91 cm / 34–36 in | Good for casual dining and kitchen areas. |
Counter stool | 40–50 cm / 16–20 in | 40–50 cm / 16–20 in | 61–66 cm / 24–26 in seat height | Pairs with 34–36 in counters. |
Counter stools should not be confused with bar stools. Bar stools are taller and can feel uncomfortable at a counter-height table.
TV Console and Sideboard Dimensions
TV consoles, sideboards, and storage cabinets should be sized based on both function and proportion. The console should generally be wider than the TV.
Furniture Type | Length | Width | Height | Notes |
TV console for 55 in TV | 140–165 cm / 55–65 in | 40–50 cm / 16–20 in | 50–70 cm / 20–28 in | Works for compact living rooms. |
TV console for 65 in TV | 165–190 cm / 65–75 in | 40–50 cm / 16–20 in | 50–70 cm / 20–28 in | Common residential size. |

Sideboard or console cabinet | 170–180 cm / 67–71 in | 45 cm / 18 in | 90 cm / 35 in | Similar to many Bukit teak sideboard dimensions. |
For a balanced look, choose a console that is at least 10–20 cm / 4–8 in wider than the TV on each side.
Bed Dimensions
Bed dimensions usually start with the mattress size. The final bed frame will often be slightly larger depending on the frame thickness, side rails, footboard, and headboard design.
Bed Size | Length | Width | Height | Notes |
Twin mattress | 191 cm / 75 in | 97 cm / 38 in | Varies | Compact rooms and kids’ rooms. |
Full mattress | 191 cm / 75 in | 137 cm / 54 in | Varies | Good for smaller guest rooms. |
Queen mattress | 203 cm / 80 in | 152 cm / 60 in | Varies | Most common residential size. |
King mattress | 203 cm / 80 in | 193 cm / 76 in | Varies | Spacious bedrooms and villas. |
California King mattress | 213 cm / 84 in | 183 cm / 72 in | Varies | Longer but slightly narrower than a standard king. |
For custom teak bed frames, add roughly 5–15 cm / 2–6 in to the mattress length and width depending on the design. Platform beds, floating beds, and beds with thick frames may require more space.
Dresser and Bedroom Storage Dimensions
Dressers should provide enough storage without blocking movement around the bed.
Furniture Type | Length | Width | Height | Notes |
Compact dresser | 80–90 cm / 31–35 in | 45 cm / 18 in | 75–100 cm / 30–39 in | Good for smaller bedrooms. |
Tall dresser | 90 cm / 35 in | 45 cm / 18 in | 100–110 cm / 39–43 in | More vertical storage. |
Wide dresser | 140 cm / 55 in | 45 cm / 18 in | 80 cm / 31 in | Good for larger bedrooms or suites. |
Leave at least 76–91 cm / 30–36 in in front of drawers so they can open comfortably.
Desk Dimensions
Desk dimensions depend on whether the desk is used for writing, laptops, office work, or hospitality room layouts.
Desk Type | Length | Width | Height | Notes |
Compact writing desk | 120 cm / 47 in | 60 cm / 24 in | 78 cm / 31 in | Good for bedrooms, hotel rooms, and small offices. |
Standard desk | 150 cm / 59 in | 70–80 cm / 28–31 in | 74–78 cm / 29–31 in | Comfortable for daily work. |
Large desk | 180 cm / 71 in | 90 cm / 35 in | 78 cm / 31 in | Better for offices, design work, and larger rooms. |
Bukit desk examples commonly range from 120–180 cm / 47–71 in long, 60–90 cm / 24–35 in wide, and around 78 cm / 31 in high.
Shelving Dimensions
Shelving dimensions vary depending on the use: display, books, retail product placement, or storage.
Shelving Type | Length | Width | Height | Notes |
Low shelving unit | 120–160 cm / 47–63 in | 40 cm / 16 in | 80 cm / 31 in | Works as low storage or display shelving. |
Medium shelving unit | 120–150 cm / 47–59 in | 40 cm / 16 in | 130–150 cm / 51–59 in | Good for living rooms and retail displays. |
Tall shelving unit | 90–180 cm / 35–71 in | 40 cm / 16 in | 190–200 cm / 75–79 in | Best for vertical storage or display walls. |
For safety, tall shelving should be placed on level flooring and anchored when required, especially in commercial or hospitality spaces.
Furniture Clearance Recommendations
Proper spacing is just as important as the furniture dimensions themselves. Even well-sized furniture can feel uncomfortable if the surrounding clearance is too tight.
Area | Recommended Clearance |
Sofa to coffee table | 41–46 cm / 16–18 in |
Dining chair behind table | 91 cm / 36 in minimum |
Main walkways | 91–122 cm / 36–48 in |
Between lounge chairs | 61–76 cm / 24–30 in |
Around bed sides | 61–91 cm / 24–36 in |
In front of dresser drawers | 76–91 cm / 30–36 in |
Between dining table and wall | 91–122 cm / 36–48 in |
For hospitality projects, it is usually better to allow more clearance than the minimum. Guests, staff, and service teams need space to move comfortably.
Should You Follow Standard Furniture Dimensions?
Standard sizing works well for most homes and commercial projects, but custom furniture is often the better choice for unique layouts, boutique hotels, villas, restaurants, and luxury residences.
Standard dimensions are useful as a starting point. However, adjusting the length, width, or height can improve comfort, maximize space, and create furniture tailored to your project rather than forcing a room to fit standard measurements.
At Bukit Interiors, we manufacture custom teak furniture to almost any dimension while maintaining ergonomic proportions and premium craftsmanship. Whether you need a single custom design or a complete hospitality collection, our team can tailor each piece to your specifications while providing wholesale manufacturing and worldwide export from Indonesia.
